For over 200 years, Americans have been attending agricultural (county, country, or state) fairs.  The early American fairs gave rural families an opportunity to see firsthand the latest agricultural techniques, equipment, crops and livestock.

After the Civil War, entertainment was added in the form of thrill shows, contests and pageants. 

Today, there is something for everyone at the over 3,200 fairs held annually in the United States.  They retain the education component, but also feature such things as exhibition and competition of livestock (4-H),

rides/midway, concessions (corn dogs!! funnel cake!!), home arts competitions, tractor pull, and live entertainment.  Though Connecticut is one of three states that does not have a state fair, there are 46 county fairs to attend.  Below are some larger fairs that are nearby.
